Evans Family Cars – 1920s to 1960s

Percy and the family probably didn’t own cars until after the 2nd World War, however, from that time onward cars appear in the slide archive.

We thought it would be interesting to collect all the slides which show cars either as the subject of the photo or in the background.

Motor Cars – Information from Dennis Evans

Dad had cars from about 1930 and during the 1930s had a succession of vehicles.

A very early one was an Austin 12 cabriolet as pictured. The name “Cabriolet” is another name for a convertible but in this case, the foldable canvas top only covered the rear portion of the roof over the rear seat.

Another of Dad’s motors was a Standard 10 which is captioned “A car which appears to be quite old!” Not sure of the order but the 1934 Morris Cowley was in among the early cars.

The Rover arrived in about 1935 and lasted until after WW2 when the final car was an Austin A30.

Scroll on down to see these grand old vehicles (in approximate chronological order):

Dennis explains above, how the driver and the front-seat passenger would get wet, while those passengers lucky enough to be in the back had a roof! This is thought to be the oldest car Percy photographed.
